Odd nzb error
« on: March 20, 2009, 12:15:54 PM »

It's been a while since I've posted.  Binbot has been a really awesome program.

Here's the error I'm getting now when opening a NZB file:

Error opening NZB file: The markup declarations contained or pointed to by the document type declaration must be well-formed.

This is a file downloaded via newleech that binbot opens fine on my laptop.  I've uninstalled and reinstalled, updated and then downgraded my version of java, but nothing works.   Tried other nzb files, no good.   Not quite sure what to do from this point.

Thanks for any help!

That is an odd error indeed  Sad

Could you copy and paste the first few lines of the NZB file?

Thanks!

How funny.  i had just two seconds ago opened a new nzb file on the pc where binbot is working fine, and i thought "man i wish i could open this on my other pc instead", which reminded me of this post.  then my new message alert popped up about your reply.   anyways, i hope this isn't too much:

I get the same error with nzb's created by binsearch.info.

Thanks for looking into this.  I hope this app has been profitable for you.  I cant imagine more people not wanting to use it.  I was quite shocked at how slow the forum was, but i suppose that's not always a bad sign since it could mean the program is working fine and no one has had any problems with it.

Thank you for providing the additional info. This is very helpful. Basically, I need to configure the NZB file parser to be more lenient. I should be able to have a fix for this in the next release. I'll keep you posted!

You're right the forums have been slow lately. They were starting to get overrun with spam, so I changed the sign-up process to require vetting by a real person. It works well, but it's a lot slower now. As a result, most support request have been coming by e-mail lately (support at binbot dot com). Thanks a lot for the good words about Binbot though Smiley

Of course I have to ask the obligatory question...

Do you have a timeframe for the next release? Smiley

Thanks!

That's a good question Smiley

I've often been wrong predicting how long it's going to take to get a new release out. But it looks like releasing version 2.0.1 by the end of April should be doable. More detail on this soon I hope!

Wanted to pass along a bit of info.  Seems I'm only getting this error on single core processors.  I've tried installing on 4 different pc's, all single core, and i get the error when opening an nzb file.  Just did a test install on a new dual core pc, and it opens nzb files just fine.   The other pcs I've used it on, my laptop, my old job, my new job, all dual core processors.

Sad part is the main pc i want to install it on is single core...   for now i'm using grabit, but it's not nearly as nice as binbot.

Any update to when a new version might be out?
