Getting Started Guide - Part 4
This tutorial will show you how to find fills for incomplete articles. It assumes that you have successfully completed Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3 of this Getting Started Guide.
- Incomplete articles are multipart articles that are missing one or more parts. By default, incomplete articles are grayed out. To find out which parts are missing, select an incomplete article (1), and click on the menu Article > Properties (2). The list of available and missing parts for that article is shown under the Part Info tab (3).
- The first place to look for missing parts is in the neighboring header pages. If for example you have just downloaded headers from page 4, select pages 3 and 5 (1), restrict headers to those matching the incomplete article you're trying to fill (2), click on Retain All (3), and click Go (4).
- If you have access to more than one server, you can search for missing parts on another server. Select a different server (1), and ensure that the same newsgroup is selected (2). If for example you have just downloaded headers from page 4, select page 4 again (3), restrict headers to those matching the incomplete article you're trying to fill (4), and click on Retain All (5). Then click Go (6).
- To find out which parts were found on the second server, select the same article as above, and click on the menu Article > Properties. The Part Info tab now shows the list of parts found on both servers. Even though none of the servers have all the parts, the article is still marked as complete, and can be successfully downloaded by combining the parts from both servers.
Note: The same process can be repeated with any number of servers. - For articles posted to multiple newsgroups, you may use the same techniques described above to find missing parts in these other newsgroups.
